To lead Mauritius towards a world class digital economy by fostering the required skills and making technology widely accessible to all.
Objectives
The objectives of MDPA are to:
- boost the growth of the ICT sector through skills development and innovation
- achieve basic ICT proficiency among all population groups; and
- advise the Minister on the formulation of national policies in respect of the promotion, development of ICT and its application
Functions
The functions of the agency are:
- prepare the national upskilling programme in ICT
- conduct awareness campaigns to attract talent into the ICT sector
- coordinate public-private cooperation in the ICT sector
- facilitate the setting up of ICT start-ups and devising programmes to bring ICT Skills development to the small and medium enterprises and promote digital entrepreneurship
- promote business compliance towards ICT laws
- operate a Certification Authority for the promotion of electronic transactions through the provision of digital certificates and e-sign services
- collaborate with the public sector for the purpose of research and development on, the use and promotion of ICT and, ICT-related matters
- organise, provide for, or collaborate with any public entity or non-Governmental organisations on training programmes for, the awareness, assessment and certification of, persons in relation to ICT and related technologies and services
- promote and encourage the use of open data at national level
