Our Projects

Digital Awareness Programme (KOREK/MauPASS)

Project Overview

The KOREK National Campaign is a flagship implementation project of the Blueprint for Mauritius 2025–2029, supporting the Government’s vision of a citizen-centric digital nation. By promoting the KOREK Super App, the campaign accelerates the adoption of digital public services, strengthens digital inclusion, improves digital literacy, and builds trust through secure authentication (2FA). Through nationwide outreach, onboarding assistance, and targeted support for elderly persons, students, SMEs, and vulnerable groups, KOREK helps ensure that no citizen is left behind in Mauritius’ digital transformation journey.

The campaign also directly supports MDPA’s strategic directions of Digital Inclusion and Skills Development, Trusted Digital Services, and National Digital Transformation Support while contributing to a more connected, inclusive, and digitally empowered Mauritius.

Under the direction of MITCI, the MDPA is conducting awareness sessions at Community Centres, Social Welfare Centres, Schools, Parastatal Organisations, Private Companies and SMEs. The campaign includes hands-on demonstrations and assisted on-boarding to ensure that citizens can effectively access government digital services through MauPASS and the KOREK mobile application.

Objectives

The main objectives of the National Digital Awareness Programme are as follows:

  • Increase adoption and confident use of digital public services through practical demonstrations and hands-on assistance, particularly targeting elderly persons, vulnerable groups and citizens with limited digital literacy.
  • Boost MauPASS registrations and KYC activations by providing assisted onboarding during awareness sessions.
  • Promote the uptake and utilisation of the KOREK Super App as the secure gateway to Government digital services, including the use of two-factor authentication (2FA).
  • Expand digital inclusion nationwide, including Rodrigues Island, by ensuring that citizens across all regions have access to awareness sessions and practical guidance.

What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?
Two-factor authentication may sound complicated, but the idea is simple. It means you prove your identity in two steps.
The first step is usually something you know, such as your password.
The second step is something additional, such as a one-time password, also called an OTP, sent to your phone, email, or generated through an app. So even if someone somehow knows your password, they still cannot easily access your account without the second step.
A simple example:
You go to an ATM. You need your bank card, and you also need your PIN. The card alone is not enough. The PIN alone is not enough. Together, they provide stronger security. 2FA works in a similar way for digital services.

Is 2FA really necessary?

Yes, it is very important. Government digital services may contain personal and official information. Protecting that information matters. 2FA helps reduce the risk of unauthorised access. It gives citizens more confidence when using digital platforms. And remember: digital convenience must go hand in hand with digital safety.
