Community Digital Empowerment Programme

On 10th & 11 May 2025, the Honourable Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr Avinash Ramtohul, successfully launched the inaugural Community Digital Empowerment Programme in Bel Air. The event was organised by the Foundation ReUse Revamp and community stakeholders. The MDPA, a key partner of the event brought digital skills engagements, hands‑on demonstrations, connectivity resources, and emerging technologies directly into the heart of the community. Building on this success, similar initiatives will be organised in varied regions across Mauritius, extending digital access and training to underserved neighbourhoods island‑wide.

Community Digital Empowerment is an initiative designed to bridge the digital divide by bringing technology, training, and support directly into neighbourhoods. By partnering with local stakeholders such as government ministries, schools, community centers, and organisations like the MDPA, this initiative delivers hands-on workshops, interactive demonstrations, and one-on-one coaching in essential digital skills. Visitors gain practical experience with tools like IoT sensors, 3D printers, virtual reality, and robotics kits, while also learning how to navigate online job platforms, build digital portfolios, and access e-services. Beyond digital skills training, Community Digital Empowerment fosters a culture of innovation and collaboration: residents identify local challenges, prototype tech-driven solutions, and share knowledge with peers. By equipping individuals with digital proficiency and confidence, the programme not only enhances employability and educational outcomes but also strengthens social cohesion and drives inclusive economic growth across Mauritius.
