Opening up of datasets will go a long way towards stimulating the economy to the benefit of all economic operators, including Small and Medium Enterprises.<\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1528 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/mdpa.govmu.org\/mdpa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ODP.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"609\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p><p>In 2017, Mauritius adopted the \u201cNational Open Data Policy\u201d to provide access to a wide range of public sector data via online portal(s), with the aims to promote transparency, accountability, and innovation by making government data available to citizens, businesses, researchers.<\/p><p>By opening up data through the Open Data portal, Government aims to promote:<\/p><ul><li>Transparency \u2013 citizens being able to freely access information about what their Government is doing;<\/li><li>Public Service Improvement \u2013 giving citizens the raw material to engage and contribute to making public services better as well as improve the quality of decision-making<\/li><li>Innovation \u2013 public data, and their re-use, are key resources for social innovation and economic growth where businesses and individuals can develop new tools and value-added services in order to work with, analyse, and make sense of the data.<\/li><li>Efficiency \u2013 Governments can come up with smarter and more efficient public services and applications by allowing information to be more easily reused within Government and enabling citizens to help improve data quality.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d38f996 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-invisible elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d38f996\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_animation&quot;:&quot;slideInUp&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>MDPA, has since 2018, set up the Open Data portal, hosting at present over 500 datasets.
